I have the Alpine in the Ram. Wifes durango has the Beats. IMO HK/Beats are better in the bass department. Alpine isn't that far off though. Sound quality though, maybe my ears aren't as intune as others but all 3 are fine. Was fine with not spending more for the HK system.
The problem is that it's impossible to trust anyone in the high-end audio world anymore. Laymen usually are subject to confirmation bias (see the reviews of people who buy M50s and then amp them because the internet told them to) and, since they made the investment in the item, they're less likely to admit that it wasn't worth it.
BMW / By The GearShifters Team. The good thing is that upgrading your BMW aftermarket speakers will always allow you to improve your Harman Kardon system. especially when you consider that the versatile DSP and 10-channel HK amp is a capable workhorse. It’s simple to improve your BMW speaker system, whether you have a Harman Kardon or another
I had a basic sound system in my M235i and it was awful. Really bad. The basic stereos in BMW have gotten worse over the years in my view. Having said that, it did give me an opportunity to upgrade to a full blown £2k worth of sound equipment which was amazing. I even bought HK corner boxes to have the tweeters put in.
The HK system in our GLA is very disappointing. It's bass is not very deep, and vocals sound like a tin can. Treble is okay at best. The system sounds slightly better with the Logic 7 turned off. Our Mini Countryman also a HK system but sounds much better and worth the extra money.

Back in 2007, BMW marketed it at Logic7 and did not use the Harmon Kardon name. It was standed on the 335, but not on the 328. Regardless, it was NOT labeled on the front door tweeters (by the window) like it is on
RAM module has better hardware for surround sound with two extra 2-way rear speakers to make that happen. 4" midranges are about same quality as in hifi, but tweeters are metal domes made by Harman Kardon in Hungary, same that BMW has used over 20 years. 8 ohm door woofers are also slightly better and there's classic 8" BMW style 8 ohm woofer
+1. That's what I found to be true, even on a 2005 E60. There was just a lot going on with the audio inside the car, and only some of it was the entertainment system.
